Hello again!
I was looking around online for some instant pot meals, as I am a huge fan of the minimal effort and swiftness with which meals can be prepared. Upon looking up ideas, I discovered a blog about Tiller & Hatch meals that were references as "JLO and AROD's frozen meals". This immediately intrigued me and I read through what the writer had to say. The consensus was that overall they were weren't bad, so obviously I needed to seek them out!
The meals are actually formulated by the personal chef that works for Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez. They teamed with the chef to create a quick and healthier at-home food option. I, for one, am a huge fan of this idea as most freezer meals contain a ridiculous amount of preservatives, sodium, and saturated fats.
I discovered that they are exclusively sold at Walmart, so trekked over there and grabbed 4 of the 8 varieties that they offer:
Chicken Tortilla Stew with Black Beans, Red Pepper and Corn
Santa Fe Style Pasta with Chicken Breast
Cajun Style Chicken Stew with Pork Andouille Sausage
Farfalle with Marsala Sauce and Chicken
All of the meals take anywhere between 9-11 minutes to prepare, not including the time it takes the instant pot to reach pressure. This is a miracle when you've worked all day and want nothing to do with actual cooking. I will say that 3 of the 4 meals required that you cut frozen sauce out of packets and empty them into the instant pot, which is pretty difficult when they are frozen solid and there isn't much room in the plastic to cut. I discovered that running them under water for a minute or so loosened up the sauce and allowed me to more easily extract it from its packaging.
Let me start by saying that all of these meals were pretty good. If you take into account the lack of effort and prep and the fact that these were quite a bit healthier compared to your typical frozen meal options, i'd give these a 4 out of 5 stars. Of the 4 we tried, the Cajun Chicken Stew and the Chicken Tortilla Stew were the most enjoyable. They had the best flavor and texture and I would definitely get them again. The pastas were not bad, but the texture is a little off because they are frozen and then steamed. They both also lacked a bit of flavor, but were easily spruced up with salt, pepper, and a little slap yo mama (a seasoning staple in our household)! These meals also offer a decent portion size, allowing us to get 4-5 servings from each package.
I would definitely recommend you give these a try! Let me know what your thoughts are!
