As with most of my recent purchases, I was drawn to Herbivore Botanicals because of their flawless packaging and advertising. After further research, I realized how much of a fan I would be of this line. The company prides itself on not utilizing fillers, synthetic ingredients, parabens, sodium laurel sulfate, phthalates, chemicals, fillers, animal testing, mineral oils, petroleum.

I was interested in the Emerald Glow Moisture Oil, not only because of it's captivating color, but because it features CBD. I have tried oral CBD in coffee and juices but was surprised to find that has become a more common ingredient in skincare. After digging a little further I discovered that it is not only calming to the body but also to the skin.

I was intrigued, so I asked my friend Dr. Jennifer Vickers, a dermatologist at Sanova Dermatology, her opinion on CBD in skincare.

What are some of the benefits of CBD for the skin, specifically in terms of facial care?

CBD, or cannabidiol, has anti-inflammatory effects and can be helpful in the treatment of skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, acne, and itching of the skin. Some studies have shown that CBD can help also help reduce sebum (oil) production in addition to reducing inflammation in the skin, both of which are two main players in the generation of acne. It also has antioxidant and regenerative effects to help offset damage from the sun, pollution, and aging. The anti-inflammatory effects can help calm the skin and reduce redness. - Dr. Jennifer Vickers

It was a unique experiencing purchasing the product, as they require you to leave the main Herbivore Botanicals website to go to their "Emerald Shop" where they sell the CBD version of their Emerald Oil.

Something that I really appreciate is that the company makes a strong attempt to teach you about CBD and the various components of marijuana. I had quite the time explaining the purchase of this product to my mom and alerting her that it was not possible to get high by using a skincare product. The fact that she seemed settled after that statement was quite progressive for her. Go, Karen!

If you are not a fan of CBD, are not of age to purchase, or are allergic, they do offer an alternative version of the oil with Hemp Extract that also offers exceptional benefits.

What can hemp seed oil offer the skin?

Hemp seed oil is produced by cold pressing the seeds of the Cannabis plant.  Products with hemp seed oil are rich in several vitamins, as well as omega fatty acids, and are great for moisturizing the skin and hair. - Dr. Jennifer Vickers

I will say that the oil does have a unique scent. It is also extremely oily on the face and I try not to touch my skin or lay down immediately after applying it in the evening for fear of getting the oil on my pillow, etc. After utilizing the oil for about a week I've noticed that my skin is quite soft and that it does seem to have a healthy glow to it. Just ask all of my coworkers that i've forced to touch my skin to see how soft it is!

I am very excited to try out more of the Herbivore Botanicals products and will be sharing my experiences with you in the future!
