I shared a video this week about purchasing the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People card deck, which basically offers you one introspective task a week to help guide and assist you in growing both professionally and personally. I thought this would be a great activity for me, as I am always looking to expand my understanding of myself and those around me!

I will be sharing my experience of these activities with you guys so you can learn more about me, but also (hopefully) learn more about yourselves! Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or share some of your opinions and stories!
Week 1: Define Effectiveness - List some things you would like to change to become more effective.
Thinking before I react - I am really good at expressing how I feel, which can be great and terrifying. I would love to work on taking a beat to process instead of instantaneously spouting what comes to mind without much thought to how it could affect the situation.
Being more patient - I have run into many situations where I get impatient with people or situations and I think that it often results in me getting frustrated or not doing justice to an activity or project. Being frustrated or half-assing things is not ideal, so I would like to work on minimizing this bad habit.
Become more strategic - Although I am great at overanalyzing situations, it somehow does not often apply in areas that it would be more realistic and convenient. I need to be more thoughtful about how I manage my time and how I spend my money. I think that this is a weakness I would love to work on.
The card also asks that I think about what matters most to me at work and in my personal life. At work, being found valuable and growing are the most important things to me. In my personal life, maintaining strong connections with the ones I love and enjoying life is important to me.
Week 2: Model Good Character - Think of a person with an excellent character. Define the principles they live by. Which of those principles would you like to implement? Do something today to act on those principles.
So I won't reveal their full name, mainly because I didn't ask permission, but let's just call this person TG. Some of the things that I find astounding about this person include their drive and commitment to succeeding, their ability to organize and strategize, the strength to take things head-on even if it's difficult, and also their ability to take advantage of life despite the many plates they juggle.
I would definitely say that being organized and confident are two traits that I really value in this person and think would help me blossom both personally and professionally.
I have a plan to map out my professional year with a planner I've already purchased so that I can be one step ahead of problems that may arise due to being disorganized. I am also going to be more assertive and confident because, after almost 6 years in my position, I feel that I have earned and grown enough to do so. My number one personal life priority is to organize my finances (exhibit a = the book titled "Broke Millenial: Stop Scraping By and Get Your Financial Life Together" sitting on my nightstand... I should probably pick it up 🙇♂️)
Stay tuned for what's to come...
